The AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellows (STPF) AI Policy Affinity Group (AI Policy AG) brings together fellows and alumni interested in artificial intelligence and its applications in federal service. Our mission is to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and advance the responsible development and implementation of AI across government agencies.
We envision a future where AI technologies are developed and deployed in ways that benefit society, uphold democratic values, and advance scientific progress. By connecting fellows across different federal agencies, we aim to create a community of practice that supports thoughtful AI policy development and implementation.
The AI Policy Affinity Group was established in 2022 by a small cohort of STPF fellows who recognized the growing importance of AI in federal science and technology policy. What began as informal discussions evolved into a structured community as interest in AI grew across fellowship placements.
Since our formation, we have organized workshops, speaker series, agency tours, and collaborative projects focused on AI ethics, governance, technical standards, and applications across sectors including healthcare, energy, environment, and national security.
